so i almost have 50 phrases/comments for my book! :) then i just need to figure out images to go with all of them...and how to place the text...oh yeah and a title...word!

i think i am going to aim for 50? pages in my book...give or take haha. i feel like that should be a decent length. and i also thought it could be interesting if i include a glossary in the back of my book of all these "slang" terms used in todays songs...but the definitions would be according to me.

i forgot to say in my previous post some of the books i saw at borders that helped inspire my humorous approach to this project...check them out if you'd like, hopefully you'll at least get a good laugh out of them :)

so after looking at examples of artists books/book arts and visiting borders i think i may have come up with an idea...i decided to take a comical approach, surprise haha and this is what i came up with.   have the book be titled Guide to Understanding Rap (or something to that effect) and then put all my random phrases about my views on rap/pop to diff images. For example, "sean paul's lyrics will never be able to be understood by the human ear...you will hurt yourself trying, so don't worry about it." sooo yeah  i think it should be really fun.

Text Artists

Text in art is probably my favorite, so I found a great deal of the artists listed very interesting. But, I guess some who stood out the most for me are Barbara Kruger and Jenny Holzer. I really enjoy the graphic nature of Barbara Kruger’s works and how bold each piece is. I think the fact that she uses a limited color palette also reinforces the boldness of each piece. I chose Jenny Holzer as well because I think the idea of projecting words and phrases on landscapes and buildings is pretty awesome. It is so cool to me to be able to view the text on such a large scale and the idea of being able to move it and place it wherever you feel is appropriate. I think it would be fun to see one of her projections in person and to also watch and see other passerby’s reactions. I feel another reason both Kruger and Holzer’s work hold my interest is the images they choose to place the text on keeps me thinking about why they would choose it for that particular image or choose to project it in that particular place and I find that really appealing.
